committees & activities

Alefba Group currently includes several independent activities with a common set of goals: Introducing and promoting Iranian and Persian arts and culture and providing services including education to the public.

Seattle Iranian choir

Seattle Iranian Choir is an ensemble with members from the local Iranian-American community. The focus of the group is Iranian music. The group’s debut was at the 2015 Nowruz Festival and since then, it has performed in various Iranian festivals including Nowruz, Mehregan and Yalda celebrations as well as the Seattle Iranian Festivals. In the past couple of years, the choir has had a joint concert with the Seattle Peace Chorus and also performed at the multi-national Cultural Festival at the University of Washington. The ensemble is directed by Afshin Sepehri and is usually accompanied by local musicians and dancers.

RADio iranshahr

Radio Iranshahr is an Internet Radio (Podcast) started in 2005 under the name of Radio College Park at the University of Maryland. In 2018, after producing 400 weekly programs and over 1000 items, the radio was renamed to Radio Iranshahr and expanded to three different locations in the U.S. including the city of Seattle, the area of Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia, and the city of Los Angeles and Orange County. A group of volunteers produce the weekly programs of Radio Iranshahr in Persian language. The items of the programs cover various subjects including arts, literature, science, news, interviews and reports.

KANKOSH discussion group

Kankosh which means consultation, search and discovery in Persian is a monthly discussion group in which attendees discuss various topics of mutual interest and learn from each other's experiences and research. Kankosh currently has two branches and will soon introduce more branches for new members. Kankosh also has an annual seminar which is free and open to public.

CHashni

Chashni is focused on culinary art activities. The group organizing the Chashni activities holds regular events to share recipes. The committee also organizes volunteers to cook dinner for homeless and seniors of Seattle once a month. The Chashni committee has plans to hold cooking classes and competitions as well. You will get a chance to enjoy Iranian foods via Chashni activities.

KHERAD SOCIETY​

Kherad Society is focused on providing services to the senior citizens, especially Iranian mothers and fathers who are immigrants and are looking for opportunities to interact with other seniors. The committee organizes monthly gatherings and events for seniors to entertain them and potentially educate them on subjects such as technology.

Health and Wellness

The Health and Wellness committee of Alefba is established with the primary goal of promoting health literacy and wellness in the Iranian and Persian Community.
However, as it is the case for the rest of the committees of Alefba, this committee is always looking for opportunities to provide service to the larger community we live in as well.

Public Relations

The Public Relations Committee of Alefba has been established to better organize the delivery of information to Alefba’s audience and to gather feedback to improve the quality of its programs.

Youth

The main goal of the Youth committee to develop the leadership skills in our Youth and in the interval build connection between the 14 - 24 years age group to the rest of the Iranian community and culture.

Miras

The focus of Heritage committee will be introduction and highlight of elements of the Iranian and Persian heritage including literature, history, art and etc.

New committees

Alefba is always looking for expanding its activities and providing more services to the community. Each new activity will add a new letter of Alefba's Alphabet (Alefba means Alphabet in Persian language)!
